Language:
Majority of Vietnamese are able to speak Vietnamese and English. Many of them are also able to speak other languages.
Medical Care/Medical Barriers/Medical Beliefs:
About 12% of Vietnamese don’t have healthcare. Some barriers Vietnamese experience are; their poor living conditions, malnutrition and genetics. Many Vietnamese believe that telling an older family member about their health problems may cause more stress on them, so they often won’t seek medical attention. They also believe that American medicine won’t be effective in them since they are Asian.
Social Hierarchy:
Vietnamese often have multigenerational homes, consisting of two to four generations in one house. Vietnamese are expected to work hard in school and in their jobs. They are also expected to behave well, especially towards their parents and elders. They consider divorce to be shameful to the family, especially for the women in the family.
Diet:
Many Vietnamese consume processed and fast-food. Their diets typically consists of rice and foods high in fats and sugar. Some traditional dishes made by Vietnamese are; Pho, Bun Cha, and Banh mi. Chubby children are considered healthy in Vietnamese culture.
Life Expectancy:
The average life expectancy of Vietnamese is 75.6 years.
