The Association Between Cannabis and Schizophrenia

Schizophrenia is a severe chronic mental health disorder that affects a persons thinking, behavior and emotions. Its been suggested that cannabis use may be a potential risk factor for the development of Schizophrenia in some individuals. Studies have shown that psychosis, which is also a spectrum of Schizophrenia is a contributing factor of abusing cannabis and other substances. Individuals who experience schizophrenia and use cannabis daily may experience more severe mental health symptoms compared to those who do not use cannabis. Therefore, the use of cannabis among individuals with or at risk of schizophrenia can have detrimental effects on their mental health and overall well-being.
