Expanding Access to and Use of Behavioral Health Services for People Experiencing Homelessness

Ending homelessness is important for many reasons. Everyone deserves basic human rights, care and dignity. Each and everyone one of us needs a safe and stable place to call home, where they can have privacy, security and a sense of belonging. Homelessness robs individuals of their fundamental rights, which leaves them vulnerable to mental illness, physical issues, social exclusion and violence. By ending homelessness, we ensure that everyone has equal opportunities to thrive and lead fulfilling lives.

We can assist in ending homelessness by increasing availability to affordable housing programs and initiatives, implementing rent control measures, and providing rental subsidies to individuals and families in need. Providing supportive services such as mental health counseling, substance abuse treatment and job training should be readily available accessible to homeless individuals to address the underlying causes of homelessness and help them to regain stability.
