Marijuana: Facts Parents Need To Know

Marijuana use among youth is a topic of serious concern with potential implications for the youths physical, social, and mental development. Parents play a major role in educating their children about the risks associated with marijuana use. It’s extremely important that parents are aware of the serious adverse effects marijuana use can have on brain development, impair cognitive function, and increase the risk of mental health issues, especially in adolescents. Research has shown that early and frequent marijuana use among youth may have long-lasting effects on memory, attention and learning abilities. Youth may start using marijuana for many different reasons including, peer pressure, trying to be cool and fit in, or from curiosity. It’s good for parents to have open and healthy conversations about the risks of using addictive substances such as marijuana.
