Tobacco use is particularly harmful to youth due to their developing bodies. The nicotine and other harmful chemicals can cause a range of health related issues, such as reduced lung function, coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath. Tobacco can also increase the risk of heart disease, stroke, and certain cancers. Smoking can also have effects on the brain as well, including addiction , mood disorders and cognitive function. Starting tobacco addiction at a young age can start a lifetime of tobacco addiction, making it crucial to promote a healthy lifestyle, and prevent and discourage tobacco use. Building stronger prevention programs for youth may also encourage youth to think of their health and give up tobacco use.
